Welcome to the Brierley Hill Choral Society Website
We are a thriving mixed choir of around 65 singers which has recently celebrated its 75th anniversary. Based in Brierley Hill in the West Midlands, we hold two concerts each year, in May and December, engaging professional soloists and instrumentalists. You can find out more about our next concerts on the Concerts page.
Our varied repertoire is based around the principal classical choral works. Recent concerts have ranged from the Masses of Mozart, Haydn and Fauré, works by Vaughan Williams, Purcell and Poulenc to pieces written by our own conductor.
On May 8th we staged an outstanding concert to a full
audience under the name of “Baroque Gems”. The choir of 67 was joined by the 23 strong Queen’s Park Sinfonia orchestra and 2 professional soloists. The programme included Bach’s
“Cantata No. 4, Christ Lag In Todesbanden”; Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and Handel’s “Zadok the Priest”. It was a great end to a successful season and as Tim, our conductor says for next
year – ‘Onwards and Upwards !’
For details of the concerts we have arranged for next season on Saturday December 4th 2010 and Saturday May 8th 2011, please click on our Concert Page.
We welcome new members who will be assured of friendly company and a lively, enjoyable musical experience. Or why not come along to one of our concerts? They are always well attended and well received and are usually followed by a drink and a bite to eat. You can find out more here.
We rehearse on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 in Mount Pleasant Methodist Church Brierley Hill.
